In the cloud we store the majority of our data, usually not having backup in paper form or on any device not connected to the Internet. And here appears the problem. Lately we were surprised by Covid-19, although we were warned that such a virus can appear. The same is with cyberattacks – we know it may occur, but we rarely care about it. The problem is, that while the reproduction rate of Covid is about 2-3, by cyberattacks it is estimated 27 and above. To make our data safer, we need to implement best security solutions, which are referred to as cybersecurity.

WHAT IS CYBERSECURITY ALL ABOUT?

Cybersecurity is protection of computer systems or networks from theft or damage. It includes valuation and control of risk arising from usage of computers and networks. This trend is extremely important to us, because otherwise we can lose connection to a lot of our data. Until now it was already a difficult task, however now it happens to be even harder. Why? Because a lot of new technologies are appearing and they can be used by both sides – by cybersecurity specialists and cyber attackers. To these challenges belong Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning and 5G network. They give us a lot of new possibilities, but also require much more protection.

  • Cyberattacks with use of AI and ML as the answer for better security
    So far cyber attacks were committed on simple attack surfaces and that is why these surfaces are now continually hardened by security teams. As they became hard enough to successfully attack, cyber attackers started focusing on alternative tools including AI (Artificial Intelligence) and ML (Machine Learning). These two are examples of new technologies, which can be used both to good and bad goals. They allow users to quickly operate on more difficult targets and avoid detection, which is helpful for attackers. The big problem in this situation also is, that these technologies are growing so fast, that it is outpacing existing regulations.
  • Uncontrolled access to personal data
    A lot of companies used to collect and store data about their customers. What’s more, they process these, not only collect. It was very useful for the firm, allowing them to analyze their clients and their needs. However, in the past few years such behaviour has become more dangerous for companies, because of the GDPR (General Data Protection Regulation). Additionally, more customers care about their privacy and ask what for is their data used. For these reasons companies have to think well, which data they really need and focus more on their good security.
  • Zero trust
    Nowadays many people become more aware about their personal data and what can be done with them. That is why they are having less and less trust to all, whatever only want data from them. And that is not always good for users, when they in default deny everything. This trend – zero trust – is becoming more problematic, because some trust from users is needed, to be able to protect them.
  • The security talent crisis
    For many years there has been a problem with the appropriate number of qualified engineers in the field of cybersecurity. Every year there is higher and higher demand on them and unfortunately not enough people to meet this demand. That is why the security talent crisis is still growing. It is said that by 2021 there will be more than 3 million unfilled cybersecurity jobs. A lot of companies try to deal with this problem in different ways – some through using their existing IT teams, not qualified in cybersecurity, some through providing solutions, which are easier to learn and manage. However, none of these solutions is good enough.
  • Vehicles as new cyber attacks targets
    Our cars contain more and more new technologies, which collect a lot of data about us. We usually connect our phone to auto, then turn on location, and call someone via loudspeaker system. This all allows cars to get enormous amounts of data about us. That makes cars good targets for cyber attacks. And the increasing number of vulnerabilities that can be exploited are affecting not only the safety of individual road users, but also can have a bad impact on general traffic and urban safety. The better secured cars will be, the safer road will become.

As we saw, there are a lot of challenges that are in front of cybersecurity experts and in front of us, as consumers and companies, which provide services. And everything stays in our hands – whether we will be protected or not, when time comes.
